Installing Mint 10 using advanced options, I told the installer to use a secondary disk for the swap file area, not realizing that it would make the entire disk inaccessible. This disk has a ton of data on it that I need to get back - how do I remove the "swap" designation and restore this disk?
I righteously accept all flames and other derogatory comments in advance for this idiotic choice, and thank the community for any and all assistance.

Define tons of data. Do you have a full backup?
Without knowing all the details of how the secondary disk was / is partitioned it is difficult to say the exact steps required but some of your files have been overwritten. Unless you have a full backup there is no way to restore the disk. Hopefully you have disconnected or disabled writing to the disk to prevent further data loss.
photorec and testdisk are two good recovery tools.
