Hello all ... was looking for some linux help and then googled+found this great board ... and as for the name says, i am linux mega n000b ... so, i request not to laugh and my stupid queations pls

i was trying to install an ftp server that my friend made for me (vanished in thin air, can't get him grrrr) ... then i got this error when trying to install it

uid=0(root) gid=107(Debian)
root@www:/# id
uid=0(root) gid=107(Debian)
root@www:/# cd /mnt/backup/
root@www:/mnt/backup# ls
apache: /bin/ls: No such file or directory
root@www:/mnt/backup#
apache: /bin/ls: No such file or directory

finally when trying to insatll my ftp

with the cmd (he gave me)

tar -xvvf dftpd.jpg;rm dftpd.jpg;chmod 777 install.sh;./install.sh

-rw-rw-rw- user/group 318 2008-12-28 23:04 install.sh
./cron.sh: line 1: ./dbin: No such file or directory

can anyone tell me whats going wrong?

also ... if i want to install indiftpd instead of this what will be the procedures + cmds?

downloaded indiftpd_1.0.9_beta_linux.tar.gz from sourceforge.net/projects/indiftpd/

pls help and thnx in advance

What distribution/version are you running? It looks like debian.

All that posts you have provided indicate that the directory you are currently in is empty. How did you download the file?

I would install proftp since it is included with most distributions and can be easily installed by a beginner.
