Full Version: How the technically inept can install into a machine with no OS?
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
New member, first time poster, "search" didn't help.
I bought a used Sony 523A Vaio from a college for $40 without an OS. When powered up, sits there and waits for an OS. Other than taking out the HD and putting it into another computer to download and install LINUX, could I use another machine and put the files onto a 250MG ZIP drive and ferry them across? Or a USB memory stick?
PS: machine apparently was licensed to the school with Windows ME so you have an idea of its capacity.
A quick google did not result in any information or specifications for this model number. so I have no idea what this looks like etc. Does it have a built in CD/DVD drive? It may or may not be able to boot from USB so removing the drive might be your best choice.
