Full Version: Recommended Distro?

Before I begin, let me first say that I'm brand new to this site and kinda Linux in general too. So, if I say anything stupid, just remember it's because I'm new.

But anyways, my friend's mom is paying me $25 to fix her old IMB Thinkpad Type 1171. The only real problem is that it's slow as hell. So, I figured I'll just install a Linux distro on it, because all she wants to really do is browse the internet. I tried putting Xubuntu on it, but it didn't have enough memory (only 64 meg). So, I tried my backup - Damn Small Linux. Problem is, whenever I tried booting the disk, I'd get a messaged telling me it couldn't boot.

So, my question is, does anyone have a specific Distro that can work on a laptop that:

-Is only about 300 mhz
-and only has 64 meg of memory

Thanks for the help

Puppy or vector might work. You need a very light windows manager.
Possible the older computer CDROM drive can not read newer disk?
