Hi there,

I just received a laptop from a friend that is running Fedora Core 7. I'm completely new to this. The sound doesn't work on the laptop and neither does the internal wireless card. Everything else looks fine. It was originally running Windows XP but apparently he got rid of it completely and Fedora is the only thing it's running. Aside from that it's a stock Toshiba Satellite. Not sure what specific model it is though, sorry.
I like the way Fedora looks and handles, and it seems pretty user friendly, but how do I get the sound and the wireless card to work?

As docmur suggests search the web. Look at the output of the console command lspci. This will show you the chipset info for your wireless and audio adapters.
Using this information you can narrower your search criteria a bit. Post back with the information. Without knowing the model number or the chipset data
we can not provide more specific help.

I found the model number, it's a Toshiba Satellite A105 - S2101.

I wasn't able to use lpsci with out getting an error message that the command was unknown, so I poked around and found another command and got it to work:

Try the madwifi driver for you rwireless adapter.

I must be doing something wrong.
The first one gives me an error message that it's unable to retrieve software information, the second one says it cannot install source packages and that no packages were given for installation, the fourth one says to rename the file to the correct extension for "plain text document" and the fifth one refuses to go on my stick drive due to an unknown error.

I might of lead down somewhat of a wrong path. This is the parent directory

Look at the output of the command uname -a to see what kernel you are using and then select that directory to download the files.. You should not need to download the src.rpm file.
There are only 4 files. The first which says parent directory will just go to the next higher directory in the tree structure. Much like moving from /home/usrername to /home.

What browser are you using? Typically one just
moves the mouse over the desired directory, select the directory using the left mouse button.

I was assuming you were talking about selecting a directory within Terminal.

Negative. the output just shows you the kernel version. Then you look at the website to see what directory to select.

Sorry for the extremely belated update but I was extremely busy.

I followed the How-To (or at least I think I did), and I didn't get very far.
I'm getting this message:
