Full Version: Where to install applications

I am running FC5, and have just downloaded Firefox 2.0 which i want to install. I have managed to download it, and extract it all just fine.

What I don't know (as a newbie) is just where I should be installing these things. I have found a file called firefox in /usr/bin. But this directory does not contain all the other stuff that came with the Firefox 2.0 tar ball like the .so files for example.

So my question is this, where should I be installing applications, as a general rule, and specifically where do I install Firefox?

Thanks

The tar.gz archive of firefox just needs to be extracted (no specific installation)...go into the extracted directory and run the binary firefox inside the directory using :
CODE
./firefox
