Hi.
How do I change runlevel for linux?
I am booting in text mode and I need to edit /etc/inittab and change runlevel. But how do I do that?

Thanks!
michaelk
Change the line in the file that says
id:3:initdefault:
to
id:5:initdefault:

You must be root in order to edit files in the /etc directory. Most distributions include the console text editor vi.
You can find a vi command list by searching the web. To edit the file.
vi /etc/inittab

Use the arrow keys to scroll down to the line and character you want to change.
Press teh insert key to enter edit mode.
Press the delete key to erase the 3.
Add the 5.
Press the Esc key to exit insert mode.
Press :wq to save and quit.
