How do I install linux to take advantage of a dual-core processor?

I'm using a Athlon x2 4200.

By using a smp kernel.

What is an SMP kernel and how do I use it?

Do I have to download a special installation image or do I install a regular version first and install something on top of that?

Thanks.

Fedora Core 6 features a 2.6.18 based kernel. There are no longer separate kernels for SMP and UP processors on any architecture. A single kernel now automatically detects your processor configuration and enables the proper bits for it.

Thanks though.
