Hello,

Im currently running fedora core 4 which has been working fine for about 2 weeks. Recently I noticed that my MySQL daemon seems to have crashed, I attempted to restart it but I keep getting:

./mysqld: line 55: 7324 Segmentation fault touch "$errlogfile"
Timeout error occurred trying to start MySQL Daemon.
Starting MySQL: [FAILED]
./mysqld: line 55: 7762 Segmentation fault touch /var/lock/subsys/mysqld

When I do a ps aux to check whats running I see quite a lot of defuncts:
root 2839 0.0 0.0 0 0 ? Z 03:56 0:00 [mysqld_safe] <defunct>
user 6455 0.0 0.0 0 0 pts/0 Z 05:27 0:00 [bash] <defunct>

Sometimes ps crashes with segmentation fault.

Also I dont seem to be able to run some commands as well, such as:

touch, cp, mv
All just say "Segmentation fault".

I thought maybe my coreutils rpm became corrupted and I tried to reinstall it only to get:
[root@sls-cf6p20 ~]# rpm -Uvh --force coreutils-5.2.1-48.1.i386.rpm
Preparing... ########################################### [100%]
1:coreutils ########################################### [100%]
/var/tmp/rpm-tmp.61742: line 3: 7791 Segmentation fault /bin/mv -f /usr/share/info/dir.rpmmodify /usr/share/info/dir

I had the technicians at the ISP do a hardware test, I was thinking maybe memory failure but after 4 hours of hardware testing, everything checked out ok.

Does anyone have any advice as to what could be causing the seg faults? Is there anything I should check or any packages I should try to reinstall?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
