I am using bash as my default shell, when I start a konsole session it dosen't seem to respect the setting in .bashrc, but if I telnet to
the localhost in the same window all the settings in .bashrc take effect. What's worng with that?

did you verified if he starts your .bashrc file, by putting a test text in it,
for example:
echo "hello"

Yes I tried that today and it does get started, however, it looks like the alias in .bashrc gets overwritten by something else. Do you know if konsole starts some other init files aflter .bashrc?
