Full Version: MADWIFI-NG Driver Loading Problems

Yea so I make and make install after removing old modules and stuff. I get the error message:

Fatal: error inserting ath_pci. (/lib/modules/2.6.12.2/kernel/drms/net/madwifi/ath_pci.ko): unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

I would have printed out the dmesg command but i can't seem to get internet working in there tongue.gif and I save to text then can't see the file in windows.

Hopefully without recompiling hte kernel or something ( i can't in a live distro cause you can't reboot?)...how can I fix this error? I was reading some of madwifi's documentation and they mentioned similar errors and referred to setting kernal properties in config or something but I don't understand.

I'm pretty new to linux so go easy

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pleeease help! I'm so lost. I've read something about recompiling kernel but I A: don't know how and B: can't ..because its livedistro assuming you have to reboot?

Depending on your distro, is there a reason you're compiling madwifi instead of using a binary package?

I see you're running Slax; this is a live CD. While it may have a hard drive installer, this is still not a good idea. You *will* run into problems trying to build packages, since so much is stripped from the distro in order to make it small enough to fix on smaller media.

You may want to try another distro. If you really want to use slax, we can still help you as best we can. smile.gif

I'm not sure how customized the slax kernel is. You may want to download 2.6.16, compile it, restart with the new kernel and try again.
