Hey,

I actualy know the solution to show the error tongue.gif

when the system shows grub boot menu, press e to edit the line of the kernel boot options.

then remove vga=788 from the end of it, then boot the kernel, I think it's by pressing b , but everything is written down at the bottom of the screen. Sorry I don't have a playable linux comp before me right now. (can't afford to reboot a server)

this way it will show why the kernel is panicing .

Sincerely
Robert B.

ps.: wonder where your initrd.img went.
mine looks like this
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.5
root (hd0,0)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.5 root=/dev/hda1 ro vga=788
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.5
savedefault
boot

you did a mkinitrd /boot/initrd.img-kernel-version-here kernel-version-here ?
