I'm sorry, 'mach.'? I'm having trouble understanding parts of your post.

Adding the following lines to the begining of xorg.conf should fix your problem

CODE
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Type1/"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi/"
   FontPath   "/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/100dpi/"

Make sure everything in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/ is readable by your user.

(Try 'startx' as root. If this works, but it doesn't work for your user, it's probably a permission problem)
