Hi. My computer crashed the other day while Firefox and Thunderbird were in use. Normally when I restart, everything's fine, but this time, when I try to start Firefox or Thunderbird, i get a message saying the default profiles are in use. Normally what I would do is open up a shell and type top to find the program and kill it, but I can't find it so I can't stop it from running and then open it back up.

I'm running redhat/KDE if that matters.

If anyone knows what I can do, I'd really appreciate it. My knowledge of my computer is pretty limited, but I try.

Thanks!

Hi,

Probably the pid file still exists for both of em programs try
looking in /var/run for firefox.pid or mozilla.pid files or something similiar, and then delete them.

Sincerely

You need to remove the files called ".parentlock" (hidden ones) inside the ~/.mozilla/firefox and ~/.thunderbird/ directories

Thanks guys! That was easy, too. Now I know about lock files.
