I am using DHCP 3.0.3 on Redhat FC4 and i use the steps that given but the following error apear when i type /usr/sbin/dhcpd start
:-
Wrote 0 deleted host decls to leases file.
Wrote 0 new dynamic host decls to leases file.
Wrote 0 leases to leases file.
No subnet declaration for start (0.0.0.0).
** Ignoring requests on restart. If this is not what
you want, please write a subnet declaration
in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment
to which interface restart is attached. **
Not configured to listen on any interfaces!

and me /etc/dhcpd.conf look like :-
ddns-update-style interim;
ignore client-updates;
subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
option routers 192.168.0.1;
option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0;
option nis-domain "compdept.edu";
option domain-name "compdept.edu";
option domain-name-servers 192.168.0.1;
option time-offset -18000; # Eastern Standard Time
range dynamic-bootp 192.168.0.128 192.168.0.254;
default-lease-time 21600;
max-lease-time 43200; }
and i have enabled /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases
Can anyone tell me way it n't start?????

Be sure to add an entry to the /etc/sysconfig/dhcpd file to specify the interface
DHCPDARGS=eth0 (Change eth0 for your actual interface )

Also use the init.d service scripts to start, stop dhcpd i.e.
service dhcpd start
service dhcpd stop
or
service dhcpd restart

I had changed /etc/sysconfig/dhcpd to eth0 and i try to use service dhcpd start but it Failed so as /usr/sbin/dhcpd start
is there a realtion between Bind and DHCP ?
michaelk
QUOTE
/usr/sbin/dhcpd start

start is not a valid command line option for dhpcd. It fails because start is not defined.

When you try starting dhcpd via the service command what are the errors? Look at the output of the file /var/log/messasges and post anything relevant to dhcpd.

I do not use bind so I am not aware of anything.

The messages files write the following :

Can't open lease database /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases: Permission denied --
check for failed database rewrite attempt!
Please read the dhcpd.leases manual page if you
don't know what to do about this.

i try to make changes in the permissions or to retype the code

touch /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases or touch /var/db/dhcpd.leases

but no way it failed
michaelk
It appears that the lease file has the wrong permissions. I will verify and post back.
michaelk
What are the permissions of /var/lib/dhcp/dhcpd.leases
Should be -rw-r--r-- and the owner should be root.
