Hi,

If you ask me I would use CentOS 3.x or 4.x for the job.

It has great stability, can be updated via yum , thus its painless to update.

I like trustix. It is also very easy to update.

If you want low overhead - Then use Gentoo.

yes gentoo, but would setting up gentoo to be a server take just as long as it does to set it up being a desktop workstation

If I were to use gentoo would I be able to ssh into it from my windows box using putty to do the install

You shouldnt need to install X if you are setting up a server, which will shave hours off of the instllation time. You can do it in about 6 hours (from nothing to a fully-functioning server).

You should be able to use ssh, I tihnk it is exdplained in the installation documentation though.

okay well thanks then I will use gentoo.
