What is .iso file, and can I install my first Linux from an DVD/CD that contains .iso file.
An .iso file is a C image, basically a CD in file form. YOu need to use a program like Nero to burn a CD based on the ISO image. DO NOT JUST BURN THE ISO ONTO A CD! There is normally an option to do so under Tools (consult your burner's documentation).

Once you have burned the CD, you can probably just boot from it (stick it in the cd drive, reboot your computer, and make sure the BIOS is set to allow booting from CD).

Installation procedures vary wildly between distributions from the "do it yourself" approach of Gentoo, to the "Let me do it for you" approach of Mandriva and Fedora etc.

Thank you! I willl try to do so!
