Full Version: General Linux Graphics Trouble
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I'm very new with Linux, a friend of mine sent me a copy of Mandrake from 2003, SuSE 9.0 Personal, RedHat 9.0 Pro, Fedora Core 3(Install and LiveCD) and I'm having problems, most likely with the graphics driver. I have a Radeon x700 Pro and some of these versions of linux are pretty old so they don't have this driver. I just selected to 9700 driver since it was the closest and tried some general drivers and the VESA driver but after installation(of all four), Linux will start to load, but will give an error saying that thw XServer failed to start. During the SuSE test it said there was no detected Radeon device, the Mandrake test also failed. I downloaded the rpm driver from but since this is my first time using linux I have no idea how to install it from the command line dry.gif It's not a huge problem but I would really like to try out Linux from the GUI since I haven't learned many commands yet. I'd hate for all of this fine software to go to waste tongue.gif
rpm -i path/to/rpm.rpm
