how to to retriev my root password.some say just delete file in md file
i'd say your s.o.l

You really need to try to remember what you set it to.
depending on what boot loader you are using
and what version of linux you are running you
can reset it.....

please post

bootloader you are using
and what version of linux you are using....

for example

lilo with redhat 8.0
Really? seems like a security risk to me.
ya you can boot to single mode
at the linux boot prompt: linux single

then it will dump to a bash prompt as user root
to where you can type passwd
and it will ask you for a new password....

but i think if the person is using redhat 8.0 i think
it still asks you for a passwd to get to the prompt

im not sure though because i have never forgotten
my root password before
