This ceratinly isn't good.
I've got a Prostar 8794 with a P4, 40 gig hd, 1gig ram - more than capable of running Windows and Linux
Using Fedora 3 final, desktop installation, all the normal options.

This summer I decided to get back in touch with linux, but I've got an online class that requires windows. When I went to reinstall windows xp pro it hangs at the hardware detection, the screen goes blank, and everything spins down eventually. I've tried it multiple times, dicked with the BIOS, tried it again to no avail. What I want is windows back - at this point I could care less if linux survives this encounter.

I've reinstalled windows on this machine before so I know that isn't the issue,

Any help would be much appreciated.

right now all you have on the machine is linux ?

I'm not sure why this would happen...but if you backup all your data on the linux partitons, then you could make the laptop clean , with a boot cd or boot floppy ... boot it up, then with fdisk remove all partitions... and then insert the windows boot cd and try it installing now.

(make sure you backup your stuff)
