Hello. I'm new to Linux as of two days ago. Please accept my apologies if I am asking obvious questions, or stupid ones!

During the install process, with the RedHat8.0 installation CD's, I gave my Linux box an IP address of 172.16.10.4 and gave it the name of NIMBUS.

I can surf the web just fine with the Netscape browser.

However, when I go into Network Configuration and click on the "Hosts" tab I see the local loopback address (127.0.0.1) listed. Is this OK?

Under Aliases I see localhost.localdomain. Is this OK?

When I click on the "DNS" tab, I see the primary and secondary DNS servers of my ISP. Under DNS Search Path, I have no entries. Is this OK?

Thanks for all your assistance.

Are you using a dialup ISP? Read up on the networking how-to to learn how all of it works. All computers configured for networking have a localhost alias that is referenced to 127.0.0.1.
