Hi all.
Background: I installed a minimal Debian Linux 3.0 (X + sci apps + TeX) on my Compaq Presario 5304 (comes with a PS/2 mouse).
My problem: X can't initialize the mouse via /dev/psaux (standard PS/2 device file), unless I first issue a command such as "cat /dev/psaux", wiggle the mouse until I see characters on the screen (indicating the mouse responds), and then press Ctrl-C. Without this procedure, the mouse is not responsive in X.
I haven't had such mouse problems with Windows 98 (installed on another partition).
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
