My system is Mandrake 10.1 with 2 HDDs (Linux and Windows), a CDRW and a DVD-ROM.

I have compiled the kernel 2.6.10-3mdk, primarily to be able to use packet writing. I have installed UDFtools1.0.03b.

cdrwtool seems to work OK. It formats the disc and does not give me any error messages.

When I boot, /dev/pkdcdvd is created as a character device. If I delete it it is recreated at the next boot.

The command:

mknod /dev/pktcdvd0 b 97 0

creates the block device.

The command pktsetup /dev/pktcdvd0 /dev/hdc returns:

open packet device: No such device or address

I don't know which device the message refers to. /dev/pktcdvd0 exists, /dev/hdc exists and I can mount and unmount it.

Could the following have any bearing on the problem:

1. While booting I see a message: "special device /dev/hdc does not exist" followed by a similar message for /dev/hdd. However when KDE 3.2 is up I do have these devices mounted and working.

2. Just before X starts this message flashes up:

Assigning raw devices: Cannot open master raw device 'dev/rawctl' (No such file or directory).

There is in fact no /dev/rawctl.

Any help will be appreciated.
