If I install Linux on a separate partition (or even separate drive) will I be able to read data that lives on my WinXP system on a NTFS partition.

Of course, all my data are on NTFS and I would like to be able to use it without having to copy it to the Linux partition.

This is my first post to this Linux forum and don't see an option to be emailed when there is a response to my posts. Is that the default? Please let me know by the email shown below.

What linux distribution are you going to install? Most distros include read support for NTFS. If you want to share data between the linux and windows I suggest using a seperate FAT32 partition.
