For some unknown reason, on my fedora box, every so often I will get like a static clicking through the speakers? Has anyone got any idea what this could be? I have an Nvidia N-force3 based on-board sound card. Its really starting to bug me!!
Ah... I have a motherboard with the nforce2 chipset, and I used to have the same problem (with fedora, which I no longer use).

lsmod | grep snd

modprobe -r snd-intel8x0 (or something similar)

The static sound should stop. If it says that it's busy, control+alt+f1, and killall gdm && killall gdm-binary (as root).

Now to get sound working, you'll need to go to nvidia's site, and download the nforce nvaudio (I believe they renamed it to nvsound now though), and install it.

modprobe nvaudio (or modprobe nvsound) and you *might* get an error message... but it'll still load.
