I just accidentally deleted my kernel on /boot directory and when I restarted my server, grub shows file not found. How do I recover my kernel files? Any info would be appreciated. thanks.
there was an option to create a boot disk...
did you say yes to this question?

i hope so...

if not you will possibly have to re-install

sorry about the bringing of bad news to ya
yeah it did but during boot up it stops to
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
what version of linux you running
RH 7.3
you said you made a boot disk and you still cant boot up?

and you have tried using the boot disk?

im not sure exactly if the kernel gets copied
to the floppy for a boot disk

or if it just looks for the kernel in the /boot directory

if the kernel is not on the floppy disk you might
have to re-install

you can if you re-install just do an upgrade and it should
fix might have to go back
and update some packages but at least you shouldnt
loose any data....
can you not boot up from the CD and then get a kernel from or the CD, put it in /boot, make sure it's linked in /etc/lilo.conf, then run /sbin/lilo and reboot ?
i am not giving a solution..
but when u boot in to linux as linux single
the init process is not we can pass arguments to editing the line..and putting at the end "single" word.but if anyone can point out how to make this grub to boot from floppy.
