Full Version: Help, I Messed Up My Linux

I have Mandrake 10.1 with KDE. I was in the configuration section, messing with screen resolution and was prompted that i must log out for the changes to take effect. I thought I logged out, restarted the X server session?, and restarted the computer. Now when I start the computer, it comes up to my login/password screen, and then logs me on as the root user. At least I think that is what it does since the $ preceeds the prompt. How do I get Linux to come back up automaticly? Did I mess something up with the autologin deal? HELP. Thanks

Hi,

are you trying to tell us that x is not starting automaticaly... ?

login as user root passwd

type startx

if x starts

then just vi /etc/inittab
and change that id::3 (or something like this) to id::5 (these are at the begining of that inittab file)

then reboot

if x shows up some errors, when you try startx , tell us the error, so we can help you out.

Sincerely
Robert B
