Full Version: How To Reboot Redhat8
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I wonder if someone could tell me how to shut down Redhat 8 gracefully...from Telnet??? Some other way??? The monitor is black and I really have to reboot this machine. Its hooked up to a KVM and Im sure the monitor isnt broken....guess Redhat just froze up or something. I can get into the box with please...

tip : don't use telnet it transports password and other stuff in PLAIN TEXT, use ssh , it's already installed with red hat, /etc/sshd/sshd.conf and change #Protocol 1,2 to Protocol 2.

the solution is

shutdown -h -t: now

it will halt the system -t (time) now

man shutdown

This is assuming you are running ssh or telnet on the server and that the firewall isn't configured to block those ports. Usually by default ctrl-alt-del sequence is configured gracefully reboot.
