I don't know if this is the right place to ask but i've been set a question about a multinational company wanting to share information with plants in different countries. i've tried to find an example of a Linux file server but i don't know what i'm looking for really, i've found PC's with the linux operating system already included for around 1000, can this be used as a server??? And how secure is it?

If anyone thinks they know what i need please let me know it would be a massive help.

Linux is as secure as you (or the admin) make it. With the correct access control, it'll be fine.

For a fileserver, I'd assume you'd want bandwith control, ftp, ssh, and a database. (And probally a fairly compilcated iptables config as well).

Google is sure to find you some decent tutorials, and information. =)
