Hello,

I've set up a internal dns server, it's working ok , I did it so my local users can access 192.168.10.2 via www.helpserver.vir (vir = virtual, hope that noone on the internet uses this ending...)

So basicaly here are the config files :

I added to the default /etc/named.conf file the following

forwarders {
62.108.117.6 **DNS Server of My ISP
}

then after zone 0.0.127

I added

zone "helpserver.vir" {
type master;
file "/var/named/db.helpserver";
};

zone "168.192.in-addr.arpa" {
type master;
file "/var/named/db.168.192";
};

after this follows the default

include "/etc/rndc.key";

now my db.helpserver looks like this :

;
; BIND date file for helpserver domain
;
$ TTL 86400
@ IN SOA thor.helpserver.vir. root.thor.helpserver.vir. (
2005010718 ; Serial
28800 ; Refresh
7200 ; Retry
604800 ; Expire
86400 ; Negative Cache ttl
)
@ IN NS thor.helpserver.vir.
;------------------------------------------------------------;
thor IN A 192.168.10.2
ns IN CNAME thor
www IN CNAME thor
;------------------------------------------------------------;
;------------------------------------------------------------;
; end.

question :

since I only you httpd server on this machine I only defined www this is ok ?

my db.168.192 looks like this

; BIND data file for 192.168.x.x reverse DNS
;
$TTL 86400
@ IN SOA thor.helpserver.vir. root.thor.helpserver.vir. (
2005010718 ; Serial
28800 ; Refresh
7200 ; Retry
604800 ; Expire
86400 ; Negative Cache TTL
)
;
@ IN NS thor.helpserver.vir.
;
2.10 IN PTR thor.helpserver.vir.
;vege

the problem as since this was my first time with dns server I did some idiotic things, like first tried helpserver.tld then helpserver.net, now even if I set the above to helpserver.vir I can still access helpserver.net helpserver.tld when will those die out ? or will they die eventualy or do I have to do something to kill em ?

also what do you need to do to dissallow accessing helpserver like this

www.helpserver

I only want to allow user to access it like this

www.helpserver.vir (or is the above also part of a still remaining cached dns name from the first few idiotic atempts ? and will eventualy cease functioning , and so I will only be able to access the server via www.helpserver.vir ?)
