I am having trouble getting xwindows to work on any of samsung monitors syncmaster 550ms and others. either I get some screen which takes up 1/3 rd of right side of screen or error telling me can't find monitor or mode is too high. Any one know of similar problems or solutions. Thanks in anticipation.

Your best bet is to go into the conf file and set everything by hand.

First, figure out all the things you need to know, specifically, the horiz and vert refresh rates and screen size. Then edit the values manually to match. That way, it should work.

Just to ask, this is a problem specific to these monitors right, not every monitor you try? If you can't get it to work on ANY monitor you try, it is probably a video card issue. What card are you using and what modul you using to control it?
