I'm looking for a network monitorin program/script for linux RedHat 9.. I don't use a GUI so i do everything in bash mode. I had a program that shows bandwidth capacites but it didnt support loging how much data went in and out! It's a bit hard for me to explain what i mean coz my english is a bit bad and coz I'm a newbie in linux unsure.gif

Anyway I'm looking for a program that is just like Du-meter or NetMeter for linux.. And again - I DON'T have a GUI..

Please help..

Hello there

if you only want to see how much data users are downloading you are searching for SITA

http://web4.hm/index.php?http://web4.hm/si...ta/sita_en.html

when using this program you should have a network layout similiar to this :

client computer ---> SITA Computer ---> Proxy Server ---> Firewall ---> internet

or

client computer ---> Sita / Firewall ---> internet

for a wee bit more interesting stuff (which is by the way...favorite of my boss)

you can mix a SQUID proxy server with a SARG combo into it.

this way you can generate webpages off what exactly are your users doing on the internet
what sites did they visit...top pages... downloads etc...

Sincerely
