Full Version: Digital Camera
Linuxhelp > Support > Hardware Support
I'm pretty new to linux, liking it alot but need help.
I have redhat 9 installed and want to use a digital camera, as far as I understand I should be able to use it as if it was a mss storage device and mount it in my fstab, however this does not seem to work.

The camera I've got is a canon IXUSi pc1060

any sergestions?

What are the error messages if any?
Do you have any other USB devices ( I assume the camera is USB).

When you plug the camera into the computer look at the ouput of the console command dmesg. Post the messages relating to the camera.
hi, thanks for the reply
I didn't know about the dmesg but here are the bits that relate to usb (oh yeah it is a usb camera).

usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs
usb.c: registered new driver hub

hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-2, assigned address 2
usb.c: USB device 2 (vend/prod 0x4a7/0x224) is not claimed by any active driver.

then some stuff followed by

hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-1, assigned address 3
usb.c: USB device 3 (vend/prod 0x4a9/0x309b) is not claimed by any active driver.
usb.c: USB disconnect on device 00:07.2-1 address 3
hub.c: new USB device 00:07.2-1, assigned address 4
usb.c: USB device 4 (vend/prod 0x4a9/0x309b) is not claimed by any active driver.

I have a usb flash device wich is working fine and is in fstab, I also have a usb scanner that I haven't tried to get working yet but is plugged in. The cammera and flash device use the same port (not at the same time obviously)

if I try to detect the camera with gphoto2 or gtkam (which i think gtkam ueses gphoto2?) I get a 'usb ptp class camera' detected followed by 'could not initialise camera'.
