Full Version: Java Runtime Environment
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I'm trying to install a program that requires Java Runtime environment in Mandrake 10.1. Whenever I try to install, I get this message: No Java virtual machine could be found from you path environment variable. You must install a VM prior to running this program. I installed j2re-1_4__06-linux-i586.rpm but I am still getting the same message. What can I do to fix this?
Java runtime is usually installed in directory /usr/java and most often "java" executable is not in the "PATH".
Thus you should add...path to java executable to your "PATH" variable and try installing the software.

Do a
export PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/j2_xxyx/bin

And then procees with installation. You may have to fix the classpath etc.But that comes later.for now you should be able to install you software.

After that you should add those lines permanently to your ~/.bashrc file.
I want to thank you for your help. I managed to get it. Thanks a million. wink.gif
