Full Version: Runs Slow After Installation
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I installed Mandrakelinux 10.0 on an older Pentium. It told me during GUI installation that I was "low on system resources" and "might" need to install with the command line version. I continued with the GUI version and didn't have any more problems. However, after finishing the installation it ran slower than slow under TDK. When moving the mouse the arrow wouldn't move for several seconds, then it would jump to the new location. Closing an application with the X box in the corner took forever.

--What are system resources anyway, and why would they be low on a computer being formatted from scratch?

--What might be causing this problem and what is the solution?

So what are your system specs? From Mandrake's website:

Memory: at least 64 MB is required (32 MB for text-install); 128 MB or more is recommended.

The more RAM the better. KDE and Gnome are hogs so you might want to think about another windows manager like fluxbox. I would consider Slackware since its min RAM requirements are 16 MB.
