Full Version: Apache Permissions
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I'm sure there's a quick fix to my problem.... but I'm trying to make files accessable from my website (using apache as the web server) so I put the files in a sub-folder of the httpd/ folder and when trying to access the folder from the internet it says "you don't have permission to access the folder...." I've used this method before in redhat linux 8 + 9, and in windows xp all using apache. im using mandrake 10.1 now. how do i allow access???
One quick fix method is...something like this..

create a group(using command...."groupadd") let's say by name "web"

Now apache must have read(and write probably) permissions for that that these pages can viewed publicly. So add apache to this group and give ownership of that folder to this group "web".(Not apache user.)

After that probably you will need, some user must have access to those folders(obviously the web developer) so add that user also to the same group. And now it should work(I mean that is how i have done things on my computer.)
Ok well i tried adding the user group and adding aphache to that group and the user accessing the folder to that group as well......still nothing....uhm, im kinda lost now
