Full Version: Older Linux Os
Linuxhelp > In The Community > General Discussion
I have a Gateway 2000 with a PII, 233 Mhz and 64MB of ram. I have Nvidia Riva 128 video card with 4MB of video memory. I'm currently running rh9, which I love, but it is just too slow. Can anyone suggest an older distribution that might run at a decent speed? I'm pretty comfortable with linux now, so I'm not afraid of a more technical distribution.
Red Hat 7.3 would be good. Or read this thread, we ratteled off about every small linux distro there is.

Can I run Linux on This Computer?
64 MB isn't really enough memory these days and the min RAM for running a GUI is 128MB. I would try Slackware and maybe a lighter window manager like fluxbox instead of KDE or Gnome. You might want to try using fluxbox plus only running necessary processes with RH to see if it speeds things up.
