I'm haing trouble with something very basic. I download unrar for linux and after untaring it the instruction on say this:

Compile it using the 32-bit flat model.

To build UNRAR executable you need to compile UNRAR.C module only.

how do I do this? I've asked many people in linux-noob channels in irc but apparently it is too stupid a question to be deemed answerable by most. I know it is a basic thing but I don't know what to do with it.

you install these programs usualy with

make
make install

I think first you must check if your gcc package is completely installed, I had some problems with tar.tgz files but at last I found out that there was a problem with my c compiler(gcc).
When you were sure that it's ok then do what already Robert told you.
