ok heres my prob.
i just set up another partition on my comp. i downloaded slackware linux. properly burnt the iso to a cd. and installed slackware on the desginated partition. using the slackware disk, i boot it up, and it comes up to a "dos looking" text feild that says welcome to slackware ect......
i log in as the new usser i created.......and it does nothing....i have kde installed but i cant get it to run.....i tried startx and other commands like that but nothing seems to be working....please help

Ok i have little knowledge to none of slackware

To do anything you need to log on it would help if you can log on as root:

Wen in root if slackware works similar to madrake try the command telinit 5
this should take you into graphics mode

What are your errors if any when you try the startx command? Also check the xf86 logs for any errors.

The console tool for configuring x is XF86config.

No point configuring your system to boot to xwindows i.e. runlevel 5 until startx command works.

What kind of video hardware do you have?
