I have Installed RH8 on hdd and I have W2k installed on hda with lilo installed on MBR. When I boot all I get is a "L"? Does any body know how to fix this?????

Here is the lilo.conf

prompt
timeout=50
default=linux
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
message=/boot/message
linear

image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.18-14
label=linux
initrd=/boot/initrd-2.4.18-14.img
read-only
append="hdc=ide-scsi root=LABEL=/"

other=/dev/hda1
optional
label=DOS

Thanks

I am experiencing a similar problem and found this post in my search for a solution.

My machine has the following devices:

/dev/hda (primary ide disk)
/dev/hdb (secondary ide disk)
/dev/hdc (cd-rw)
/dev/hdd (ide cdrom)
/dev/sda (scsi disk)

I boot off my scsi disk. Windoze 98 and 2000 both boot fine, but when I try to boot Linux I get LI and then it freezes. Linux boots fine from the boot floppy that I created on install. I suspect the problem is that the bios sees /dev/hda as the first disk, /dev/hdb as the second disk, and /dev/sda as the third disk. (That's what comes up in Partition Magic).

I'll get to my lilo.conf (I'm currently in win2k) and add it to the post soon.

You need to include the location of the root directory. Change /dev/hdax to whatever your actual root partition is located.

Then rerun lilo.
