Hi I am using SuSE 9.1 and finally figured out how to view my shares through linux, but I cant view my linux shares through xp, I have not yet configured my smb.conf file because when i try to write to it, it says not possible to write, also what are the main values i would n eed to change to get everything working properly , thanks much )

Its probably just a privilage issue when editing your samba.conf file. Make sure you have root privilage either by opening a root console or typeing su at a regulare console.

As for the second half of your question, I have no idea.

yes thats what I thought at first, so I logged in and tried the same thing, I open the conf file and I cant even change any text on it until I open it with kate or kwrite, but then it wont save.
Jim
what were you trying to open it with?
