Full Version: Need Help Publishing My Web Page
Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
I'm new with Linux and I have installed redhat 6.2 and apache.
When I type the address the server returns "You don't have permission to access / on this server.". What should I do in order to be able to view my web page?
Thank you.
It all depends on where your apache config file is looking for your base directory. Different distributions have different results. First, look for your apache config file (may be in /etc, /etc/apache, /usr/local/apache/conf) named httpd.conf , in that file look for a setting for "DocumentRoot", this will tell you where your html files should be located to. If, for example, they are located in /var/www (which a lot of distributions are doing right now), then cd into that directory and make sure you have your files in there. For individual users, you can place your html files in your home directory under the "public_html" directory. (mkdir ~/public_html && chmod 644 ~/public_html).
I did what you said:),
The directory is home/httpd/html.
I think there is a problem with the permissions.
I managed to see my page...and now I changed it and can't see it again:).
thank you, George
