You didn't say what distro/version of Linux you are using ... I have had a problem in some versions of xfree ...

Do you have a /etc/X11/XF86Config file, a /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 or and /etc/X11/xorg.conf file?

In one of those files what does the line:

Option "Protocol"

What I used to fix my KVM switch problems is:

Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"

But with some systems, i needed:

Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
right well i am completly new to linux but i will find the files i am useing SuSe 9.1 personal buy the way but i will have ago when i get home from work thx for your help so far
hi i have the /etc/X11/XF86Config file but it does not let me edit the line why is this thank you
you have to have root privlage to edit files like that. At the command line su and enter your root password than open up the file from the command like using emacs or vi or something. That should get you going.
