Linuxhelp > Support > Technical Support
Hello, i get this error when i run XServer. i go and type "startx" and it tries to start, but then this shows up:

Config Error: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config:407

Modes 640x480

Mode Name Expected
X Connection to :0.0 broken(explicit kill or server shutdown)

So, any ideas on how to fix this error? i dont know what to do at this point. I have a Samsung Sens 700 Laptop. thats what i installed Red Hat Linux 6.2 onto. can anyone tell me exactly how to fix this?
You have rather old version of Redhat. Why don't switch to a newer one.

All these nifty X problems...are mostly because of incorrect X may have to configure x.
You might want to try the readme files in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/doc for details on specific video cards. If your card is compatible, try to run Xconfigurator to see if the settings are good for your monitor. Consult monitor documentation for specifics as having the wrong settings, such as 1024x768, can cause your GUI to not work. XF86COnfig has its own man page, so just type in 'man xf86config' to bring that up.

Hope this helps.
