Full Version: Help! ... Shut Down/restart From The Keyboard?

I've been hacking around in the Fluxbox menu file tweaking it to my liking.
I made an error which removed the commands to exit or restart or shutdown Fluxbox.
I've corrected my editing error (i think!) but now I need to "restart" Fluxbox in order for it to take effect.
Is there a way to restart or exit Fluxbox using only keyboard commands?
I'm assuming that if I just hit the Power Off button on my 'puter I'll lose all of my file editing?

press Ctrl-Alt-F2, then at the console, type:

su - root

and login as root, then

shutdown -r -y 0

And the computer will shoutdown and reboot....

After I entered Ctrl-Alt-F2 and logged in as su I forgot the above command (when will I ever learn) so I fell back to my old ways and keyed Ctrl-Alt-Delete. The system rebooted and my 'editing work' in Flux box was saved!

Thanks... this Forum is great and your the best!!

Never mind...you need not to login as root even:
use "halt" command to shutdown and "reboot" command to restart.

I don't know if these commands are standard commands, but since i am a Redhat loyal i have always taken for granted that these commands are standard one.
