I am attempting to redirect http requests from an external server (internet connected) to an internal server (not accessible from the internet.

in httpd.conf I have the following;

<VirtualHost *>
DocumentRoot /var/www/web
ServerAdmin root
DirectoryIndex index.html index.php index.htm index.shtml
ProxyRequests on
ProxyPass /test http://10.0.0.202
ProxyPassReverse /test http://10.0.0.202
</VirtualHost>

I have placed a file named index.htm in /var/www/web.
This file contains the text "you are in /var/www/web".

If I enter http://www.domain.com into an external browser I get "you are in /var/www/web" displayed.

If I enter http://10.0.0.202 into an internal browser I get the web site I expect to see.

If I enter http://www.domain.com/test into an external browser I get
"Error 403 forbidden You are not authorized to view this page"

Can anyone please tell me where the error is?

Take a look at this article ... make sure you are loading all the right modules in the config file.

try putting a / after test in your url so it looks like:

http://www.domain.com/test/

If that works ... the article tells you haw to also make http://www.domain.com/test work...
