As some here know I am about as new to linux as I can be but the more I mess with it the more I like it. I'm in the market for a new laptop as a portable CAD graphics station and thought that perhaps I could also have linux on it.

I'm currently looking at Dell Inspiron XPS, Gateways M675 series and IBM's thinkpad g series

Will Linux enterprise run on all three well?

The dell xps should be doable ... here are some installs:

The others you mentioned should work as well.

I never liked Dell's that much, however, last month one of the other students in the school brought in a Dell Latitude laptop that was a P166 with 64mb of ram. When she told me that, i rolled my eyes and thought to myself "this is going to be slow as a bitch". However, I formated the hard drive, and installed Windows ME on it (it's what she wanted), and it blew me away. It was very fast and responsive (and stable!). It was comparable to some of the 1Ghz pieced together computers we have here at school.

Ever since then, I've been looking on ebay and stuff for a Dell laptop for cheap because even a P166 was definitly usable.

I don't have much experience with laptops, I just thought i'd share that story.
