Weird Sound Error

I get this error message when i start my system:
Error while initializing the sound driver:
device /dev/dsp can't be opened (no such device)
The sound server will continue, using a null output device.
WHAT DOES THIS MEAN??? HELP PLEASE!!

this means that your sound card is not properly configured and you
may need to configure it using modprobe or sndconfig.
