When i have hard disc connected to the ultra ata 100 (assus main bord)
i can not install mandrake 9.0. If i connect hdisc to the ide connector mandrake 9.0 install without problems. Mandrake 9.0 obviously have same problem with ultra ata 100.

its quite possible that being it ultra ata 100 that the cable connecting
the hard drive to the motherboard is not for use with ultra ata 100.
try a different cable....i dont remember exactly how many pins are
in the cable...but i have had this same problem...not with installing linux
but actually trying to get the computer to recognize the hard drive...
so its a legit problem that he may be having
