I'm trying to install mysql on my Red Hat 9.0 machine.
I've downloaded the file named: mysql-3.23.58.tar.gz to the following directory: cd /usr/local/src

Now when I enter the following on my terminal:

[root@localhost src]# tar xzf mysql-3.23.58.tar.gz

I get the following errors:

gzip: stdin: unexpected end of file
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Unexpected EOF in archive
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now

Thanks in advance... sad.gif
RedHat 9 has MySQL on the install disks ...

I would recommend you do the install using apt.

Download the RH9 version and and install, then use this as your /etc/apt/sources.list
# Red Hat Linux 9
rpm redhat/9/i386 os updates freshrpms
### Dag Apt Repository for Red Hat 9
rpm redhat/9.0/en/i386 dag
rpm redhat/en/i386/9.0 newrpms
rpm redhat/9/en/i386 at-testing at-good at-stable

Then you would update all the RH9 software to the latest with:

apt-get update

apt-get dist-upgrade

After you are done with that ... install synaptic like this:

apt-get install synaptic

Then run synaptic to install mysql...
[root@localhost src]# tar xzf mysql-3.23.58.tar.gz

If that gives you an error about unexpected EOF, then chances are, your download got fooled up. It's best to re-download the file from and try it again.
